NOW球星／下一個王牌巨投？ 菊池雄星可望赴美
日職西武獅同意本季後，讓王牌左投菊池雄星轉戰大聯盟，據傳包括道奇隊在內，有4支以上的大聯盟球隊，有興趣加入搶人大戰。
美國媒體以「下一個日本球星，菊池雄星」為題，介紹這名27歲的左投手，文章中提到道奇、教士、皇家、費城人等隊都對菊池感到興趣。
菊池雄星最為人稱道的，是他遠高於日職平均的球速，最快可達時速158公里，加上左投優勢，他上季繳出16勝6敗、防禦率1.97的鬼神成績。儘管今年戰績下滑，仍達成連三年雙位數勝投，扛起西武獅王牌的角色，目前13勝4敗，防禦率3.16在太平洋聯盟暫居第2，僅次於樂天的岸孝之。
大聯盟球隊本季屢次派出球探，到場觀看菊池雄星投球，美國媒體更是給予他高度評價，在文章中提到：「他是名優秀的左投手，球速落在92、93英哩，有切球、滑球，以及傑出的直球與變速球，可以勝任第3號先發，甚至更好。」
